Response to Questions

We are off to a wonderful start for the 2010-2011 school year.  It is great to be a part of an outstanding team and work in a Texas Education Agency (TEA) rated Recognized school district.  Seagraves ISD has never been rated higher than Acceptable since the inception of TAKS back in 2003.

Another outstanding accomplishment that needs to be acknowledged is that our elementary campus is rated Recognized by the T.E.A.  This is a truly outstanding accomplishment when you factor in that just two short years ago the campus was rated as Academically Unacceptable.  The teachers, staff, and students rolled up their sleeves and worked diligently to make a difference, and today the campus is a shining example of hard work paying off.  The foundation that our elementary is building today will ensure that we do not have the academic struggles that we had in the past.

We have some exciting new programs at Seagraves ISD this year.  Project Lead the Way started in the junior high and focuses on technology and engineering development.  This program requires critical thinking and challenges students to “think outside the box” to create and solve complex tasks.

Eagle Leadership Challenge is a program that builds character through service to the community and other projects that encourage citizenship.   This is a voluntary program for students 4th grade and up requires its members to meet certain expectations.

W.A.I.T. training is beginning its first year at Seagraves ISD.  This is an abstinence-based program that encourages and gives students tools to use to WAIT until marriage before becoming sexually active.  This program promotes healthy relationships, teaches what a relationship should look like, and offers examples and opportunities for students to practice those skills.

This year our school newspaper, The Talon, will be printed bi-weekly and will be disseminated throughout the community without charge.  Currently we have 24 students involved who will be learning digital photography, editing, and other journalism-related skills.  Our hope is that when these students graduate, they will be ready to work for a newspaper agency.

Over the last few years, we have made major upgrades and improvements with our facilities both inside and out.  This year, our classrooms at the elementary campus received new carpet, the south hallway has a new floor, the cafeteria was remodeled, and the gym received a major overhaul.  At the junior high, the restrooms were remodeled and the auditorium has new heating and cooling units.  The high school cafeteria now has a new serving line to maintain optimum food temperature.  These are just a few of the changes made to create a pleasant and safe learning environment for our students and staff.

Our goal this year is to go from “Good…to…Great!”  To do that, we cannot rest on our laurels.  Good is the enemy of great; therefore, we must fight complacency and continue striving for excellence in all that we do at Seagraves ISD.
